 Mr. Pallone submitted the following concurrent resolution; which was 
          referred to the Committee on International Relations

                         CONCURRENT RESOLUTION


 
Expressing the sense of the Congress relating to the slaughter of Greek 
      civilians in Kalavryta, Greece, during the Second World War.

Whereas 1993 marked the 50th anniversary of the terrible slaughter of Greek 
        civilians that occurred at the town of Kalavryta, Greece, during the 
        Second World War;
Whereas on December 12, 1993, the American Hellenic Educational Progressive 
        Alliance Chapter 287 of Asbury Park, New Jersey, sponsored a memorial 
        service, held at Saint George Greek Orthodox Church, commemorating those 
        slain in Kalavryta and its neighboring monasteries and villages;
Whereas the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Alliance Chapter 287 is 
        dedicated to making better known publicly the heinous actions of Nazi 
        occupation troops at Kalavryta, which included slaughtering 1,300 men 
        and boys--the entire male population of Kalavryta--ransacking and 
        burning the town, attempting to burn alive the women and children of the 
        town, who were locked in a grammar school, and burning buildings in and 
        killing the residents of several monasteries and villages surrounding 
        Kalavryta;
Whereas as active participants in a free and democratic society, it is the duty 
        of the Congress and the citizenry of the United States to remain 
        vigilant in order to ensure that such atrocities as occurred at 
        Kalavryta never again be perpetrated; and
Whereas it is both proper and fitting for all life-affirming people to 
        commemorate the tragedy of Kalavryta, to rededicate ourselves to the 
        principles of equality and justice for people of all races and 
        religions, and to pledge that the sufferings of the people of Kalavryta 
        shall not be forgotten: Now, therefore, be it
    Resolved by the House of Representatives (the Senate concurring), 
That it is the sense of the Congress that the victims of the Kalavryta 
carnage should be honored and remembered and that the United States 
should renew its commitment to ending tyranny and bigotry to the 
benefit of all humanity.
